(Reflecting on mid August)
After being pleasantly saturated by 11 Classic Rock concerts in 3 days at Cariboo Rocks and having a lovely visit with my brother, Mark, and Dee it was time to head west and check out Burns Lake.
An interesting specialist teaching position had appeared in my email from “Make a Future” for a District Teacher Librarian/Learning Commons Specialist in SD91. The position was only for 6 months and it involved teaching at two elementary schools evolving the libraries into Learning Commons. One school was William Konkin Elementary in Burns Lake and the other was Decker Elementary in Decker Lake.
Hmmm….The job and living close to my brother for 6 months intrigued me and called out to me at many levels. My husband Mark was so supportive, and together we decided to drive to Burns Lake and check out the community. A new adventure was waiting… but where was this place and were the fires as scary as on the news? (The answer was DEFINITELY YES!)
Driving while forest fires burned around us is not something I want to repeat in the near future. My heart pounded and I have to admit…I was SCARED! There were (and still are) signs of love and appreciation for all the fire fighters who fought each day and night to get control of these fires! Thankfully…The smoke is gone now and we can see the skies clearly once again!
